America’s Credit Unions Backs 340-Plus Candidates In Election Push

By CU Today Staff —

WASHINGTON — America’s Credit Unions said it is mounting what it calls the credit union movement’s most comprehensive election effort to date, with more than 340 candidates it considers pro-credit union appearing on congressional ballots in November.

The trade group said 96% of candidates supported by America’s Credit Unions PAC advanced through their primaries. The general election slate includes more than 45 candidates seeking open seats and nearly two dozen priority candidates in highly competitive House and Senate races.

America’s Credit Unions said its strategy includes grassroots mobilization, get-out-the-vote outreach, direct political spending, member communications and relationship-building by the trade group, state leagues and credit unions. It said it has met with every congressional candidate receiving its backing and that support decisions are based on candidates’ positions on issues important to credit unions and relationships developed over time. The effort includes the previously announced record $10-million investment through America’s Credit Unions PAC and National Advocacy Fund.

“Our record $10-million investment is to ensure that our industry is actively shaping the policy environment. We are mobilizing our national grassroots base to back candidates on both sides of the aisle who understand that supporting credit unions means protecting access to affordable credit for working families, family farms, and Main Street businesses,” President/CEO Scott Simpson said.
