DCUC Launches Digital Ads Thanking Senators Cotton And Luján
By CU Today Staff —
WASHINGTON —The Defense Credit Union Council Wednesday launched separate digital advertising campaigns thanking U.S. Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) for supporting America’s military and protecting servicemembers’, veterans’, and military families’ access to affordable credit through credit cards.
Managed through DCUC’s Defending Credit Unions National Advocacy Fund, both campaigns started on Oct. 6, 2026. Ads recognizing Senator Cotton will run in Arkansas and the Washington, D.C., area. Ads recognizing Senator Luján will run in New Mexico and the Washington, D.C., area.
The ads feature each senator individually and thank him “for protecting access to credit cards for America’s veterans, active duty, and their families.”
“Supporting our military includes protecting the financial readiness of the people who serve,” said Jason Stverak, DCUC chief advocacy officer. “We thank Senator Cotton for standing with servicemembers, veterans, and military families and supporting their access to affordable credit. When a family is preparing for a deployment or moving to a new duty station, having a credit card they can afford and count on makes a real difference.”
“We also thank Senator Luján for recognizing the importance of protecting credit card access for those who serve and their families,” Stverak said. “An unexpected car repair, emergency travel, or a household bill does not wait for a convenient time. Military families deserve safe, affordable financial options and leaders in Washington who will help protect them. We appreciate Senator Luján’s support for that mission.”
Defense credit unions serve members through deployments, frequent relocations, overseas assignments, and the transition to civilian life. Credit cards are part of that support, giving members a reliable way to make purchases and manage unexpected expenses wherever military service takes them, Stverak noted.
DCUC added that it has consistently opposed credit card routing and interchange mandates that the trade group warns would undermine credit unions’ ability to offer affordable financial services. Interchange revenue helps credit unions cover the costs of secure payment systems, fraud prevention, cybersecurity, and member benefits. Protecting that ability to serve is central to DCUC’s advocacy for military and veteran communities, Stverak said.
“Financial readiness is military readiness,” Stverak added. “Through these campaigns, we are recognizing leaders from both parties who understand why access to affordable credit matters. DCUC will continue speaking up for the credit unions and military families who depend on a secure, reliable payments system.”
