Worldline Launches Payment Tool For Purchases Made By AI Agents

PUTEAUX, France--Worldline has launched a payment tool that allows merchants to accept purchases initiated by artificial intelligence agents, as payment companies prepare for growth in so-called agentic commerce, according to Fintech News.
The Worldline Global Collect Payment Handler supports the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard developed by Google and other industry partners that provides a common framework for AI agents to discover products and complete purchases. Fintech News reported merchants can configure their payment options once and use them across platforms connected to UCP.
The technology supports cards, mobile wallets and European payment methods and is available through Global Collect, Worldline's cross-border payments platform.
“As AI starts to play a bigger role in how consumers discover and buy products, merchants are looking for ways to capture these new opportunities without adding complexity to their operations,” Stijn Gasthuys, head of Global Commerce and CEO of Global Collect, told Fintech News. “Our role is to make that possible through payment capabilities they already know and trust.”
Gertjan Dewaele, vice president of product and technology at Worldline Global Commerce, said the company has created “a universal adaptor on UCP that securely bridges agentic commerce platforms and merchant backends.”
Fintech News noted Worldline has also tested AI-agent payments with ING through separate projects involving Visa and Mastercard.
