CU Loan Growth Cools To 0.25% As Mortgage, Personal Lending Decline

WASHINGTON--Credit union loans outstanding increased 0.25% in July, compared in 1.26% increase in June and a 0.26% increase in July 2025, according to America’s Credit Unions’ latest Monthly Credit Union Estimates.
Leading loan growth during the months were secured personal loans (0.42%), home equity lines of credit (1.39%), credit cards (0.77%), auto loans (0.51%), and second mortgages (0.34%).
On the decline were first mortgages (-0.06%), private student loans (-0.95%), and unsecured personal loans (-1.94%).
Estimates are updated monthly and available on an online dashboard with other resources.
