By CU Today Staff —

WASHINGTON— The U.S. Department of the Treasury has appointed Chris Miller director of the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund, placing an executive with 20 years of small-business and community-development finance experience at the agency.

“I am honored to serve as a presidential appointee and Director of the CDFI Fund, bringing my industry experience in community development finance to this important role,” Miller said. “I look forward to working with the CDFI Fund’s talented team, the industry, and our stakeholders to advance the Administration’s economic agenda, expand access to capital, and create opportunity in communities across America.”

Miller joins the fund from Knoxville, Tenn.-based Three Roots Capital, a certified CDFI, where he helped manage the organization and its access-to-capital programs. He previously managed a $150-million commercial loan portfolio and worked with approximately $50 million in investment funds focused on early- and growth-stage businesses in Appalachia.

“I’m happy to welcome Chris to the Treasury team. Chris comes to the CDFI Fund with a strong connection to the CDFI industry and understands what CDFIs need to help generate growth and opportunity in economically disadvantaged communities,” said Alexandria Smith, deputy assistant secretary for community and economic development.

Miller holds an MBA from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama.
