Simpson, America’s Credit Unions Advocacy Team Press Industry Agenda On Capitol Hill

By CU Today Staff —

WASHINGTON--Credit union priorities took center stage on Capitol Hill Thursday as America’s Credit Unions President and CEO Scott Simpson joined members of the association’s advocacy team for meetings with key lawmakers and policymakers to advance the industry’s legislative agenda.

Meetings included Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), House Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain (R-MI), and House Financial Services Committee staff for Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-CA).

As a leader on the Senate Finance Committee, Wyden is part of reconciliation discussions, and Thursday’s meeting emphasized the billions in value credit unions deliver to consumers every year, and why the credit union tax status is essential to those benefits, ACU said.

America’s Credit Unions said it is working to advance threshold modernization, regulatory relief, digital assets, and data privacy security legislation, and discussions with Emmer and McClain from House leadership demonstrated how those bills would ultimately result in better credit union service to communities.

Simpson also met with legislators on Wednesday, including Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill (R-AR), and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO).
