VERNON HILLS, Ill.—The $6.5-billion BCU ere plans to acquire HealthCare Associates Credit Union, a $486.4-million institution based in Lisle, Ill., pending regulatory and member approval.
According to HACU, the proposed combination is rooted in the two organizations’ shared focus on serving healthcare professionals and their communities.
In announcing the deal, HACU said the combined organization would continue operating under the HealthCare Associates Credit Union brand as “HealthCare Associates Credit Union, powered by BCU,” while gaining access to BCU’s broader resources, technology investments and operational scale.
HACU’s board said the merger would allow the credit union to expand products, services and digital capabilities while maintaining its healthcare-focused mission. The credit union serves healthcare workers, hospitals and medical associations nationwide and recently launched a refreshed brand centered on its healthcare heritage.
The proposed transaction marks the latest expansion for BCU, one of the nation’s larger credit unions, which has completed several mergers over the past decade as it has broadened its national footprint.
