RYE, N.Y.— USALLIANCE Financial has named longtime executive and Chief Financial Officer Brett Wheeler as its new president and CEO, succeeding Harry Zhu, who is leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities, the CU reported.
The $3.4-billion USALLIANCE Financial said Wheeler brings more than 20 years of credit union experience to the role, including nine years with the NCUA and nine years in senior leadership positions at USALLIANCE, where he also previously served as interim CEO. Board Chair Carla Palma said Wheeler's industry knowledge, strategic vision and understanding of the credit union's culture and member needs made him the board's choice to lead the organization forward.
During his tenure as CFO, Wheeler helped guide USALLIANCE's growth to more than $3.4 billion in assets and oversaw key elements of the credit union's digital-first, branch-enhanced strategy. The credit union said it also experienced sustained membership growth, improved member satisfaction and a stronger balance sheet under his financial leadership.
"In my nine years at USALLIANCE, I have been continually inspired by our innovative employees who serve our growing membership base," Wheeler said in a statement. He added that he looks forward to leading the credit union as it approaches its 60th anniversary and continuing its mission of helping members achieve financial well-being.
USALLIANCE Financial, which was founded by IBM employees in 1966 and now serves more than 190,000 members nationwide, said Wheeler's appointment provides leadership continuity as the credit union enters its seventh decade of operation.
