DCUC Ad Campaign Highlights Warner, Hill For Credit Card Support
By CU Today Staff —
WASHINGTON--The Defense Credit Union Council has launched a digital advertising campaign highlighting U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and U.S. Rep. French Hill (R-AR) for their support of policies affecting credit unions and financial services for servicemembers, veterans and military families.
The campaign, funded through DCUC’s Defending Credit Unions National Advocacy Fund, is running across Arkansas, Virginia and the Washington, D.C., area. The ads specifically credit Warner and Hill with “protecting access to credit cards for America’s veterans, active-duty, and their families.”
DCUC noted that it continues to oppose interchange proposals that would impose government-mandated routing requirements, caps, or other restrictions on interchange revenue.
"For credit unions, interchange helps support the costs of operating secure payment systems and providing affordable financial products and services. For defense credit unions, those costs include fraud prevention, cybersecurity, member rewards, low- or no-fee products, financial counseling, and other services designed to meet the needs of military and veteran communities. Servicemembers and their families often rely on these services while relocating, deploying, transitioning between duty stations, or navigating unexpected financial challenges," DCUC explained.
“We appreciate Senator Warner and Congressman Hill for their engagement on issues that directly affect credit unions and the military and veteran communities we serve,” said Anthony Hernandez, DCUC president/CEO, ret. U.S. Air Force colonel. “Their attention to the role of credit unions in providing accessible and reliable financial services is important. We are grateful for their willingness to engage with the credit union community and consider how changes to the payments system could affect the service members, veterans, and families who rely on us.”
DCUC reminded that defense credit unions operate in a uniquely mobile environment, serving members across state lines, on military installations, during deployments, and overseas. A secure, reliable, and portable payments system is essential to ensuring members can access their accounts and conduct everyday transactions wherever service takes them, the trade goup said.
“Financial readiness depends on reliable access to financial services,” stated Jason Stverak, DCUC chief advocacy officer. “DCUC will continue working with policymakers to preserve a payments system that supports competition and consumer choice while allowing member-owned credit unions to invest in fraud protection, cybersecurity, and the financial readiness of those who serve.”
