Longtime UW Credit Union Leader Phillip Hellmuth Dies

MADISON, Wis.—Phillip J. Hellmuth Sr., a longtime UW Credit Union leader whose service to the credit union movement spanned more than half a century, has died, the credit union reported.
Mr. Hellmuth joined UW Credit Union’s board of directors in 1971 and served as board chair and later as board director emeritus.
UW Credit Union President and CEO Paul Kundert said Mr. Hellmuth’s influence extended well beyond the Madison-based credit union. Hellmuth was inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in Washington, D.C., served as president of the national Education Credit Union Council and spent nearly 30 years working with CUNA Management School as a seminar leader and reviewing, critiquing and grading student projects. He also served nearly 20 years on CUNA’s Board of Examiners for the Certified Credit Union Executive Program, including as chair.
“Phil's wisdom, warmth, and relentless dedication to our members established a culture of service that defines UW Credit Union today. We will honor his legacy by upholding the member-first values he lived for,” UW Credit Union said.
The credit union extended its sympathies to Mr. Hellmuth’s family, friends, colleagues and the credit union leaders he mentored.
