CORRECTION: Senate Moves Closer To Confirming John Crews To NCUA Board

By CU Today Staff —

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Senate voted today to proceed with consideration of executive branch nominees. A separate vote by the full Senate on the confirmation of John Crews and the other nominees is expected in the near future. CUToday.info incorrectly reported that Crews was confirmed earlier Thursday.

WASHINGTON— The U.S. Senate has moved closer to confirming John Crews to serve on the NCUA board, paving the way for him to succeed NCUA Chairman Kyle Hauptman and leaving the agency with a single board member following the Trump Administration's removal of Democratic board members Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka earlier this year.

Hauptman, whose board term expired in August 2025, has remained in office while awaiting confirmation of his successor. Earlier this year, he was appointed to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and had said he will remain at NCUA until Crews is confirmed.

During his confirmation hearing last month, Crews told lawmakers he would focus on reducing regulatory burden for smaller credit unions, encouraging innovation and supporting the chartering of new credit unions, while emphasizing the importance of protecting the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund and maintaining the safety and soundness of the credit union system.
