Visa Adds Unified Fraud Score To A2A Protect

By CU Today Staff —

SAN FRANCISCO—Visa has expanded its A2A Protect platform with a unified fraud score designed to help financial institutions stop fraudulent account-to-account payments before funds leave customers’ accounts.

The score marks Visa’s first commercial integration of technology from Featurespace and provides real-time risk signals intended to detect more fraud while reducing false alerts. Visa said A2A Protect uses artificial intelligence and transfer learning to provide risk intelligence immediately, without waiting for models to learn from an institution’s transaction history or for other banks to join a consortium.

Financial institutions that opt into network-level intelligence sharing can receive information about emerging scam hotspots and coordinated fraud activity across the payments ecosystem. Visa said A2A Protect increased fraud detection by 75% during the first six months of deployment.

“Fraudsters move fast across payment types, and financial institutions need risk insights just as quickly, without slowing down legitimate payments,” said James Mirfin, Visa’s head of risk and security solutions.

A2A Protect connects with existing financial institution systems through a single API, and each alert includes a plain-language explanation of why the transaction was flagged, Visa said.
