Credit Union Loan Growth Slows Again As Mortgage Weakness Offsets HELOC Gains

WASHINGTON--Credit union loans outstanding increased 0.12% in May, compared to a 0.19% increase in April, and a 0.48% increase in May 2025, according to America’s Credit Unions’ latest Monthly Credit Union Estimates.

Leading loan growth during the month were home equity lines of credit (1.35%), second mortgages (0.47%), auto loans (0.15%), unsecured personal loans (0.13%), and credit cards (0.11%).

On the decline were first mortgages (-0.17%), secured personal loans (-0.2%), and private student loans (-0.98%), ACU said
