By CU Today Staff —
BETTENDORF, Iowa—An employee of IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union is accused of stealing more than $28,000 from seven member accounts, six belonging to deceased individuals, according to court documents cited by AZ Family.
As AZ Family reported, Amanda N. Tincher, 38, of Davenport, Iowa, was arrested on multiple felony charges after an investigation that began July 2, when a credit union official alerted police to suspicious transactions involving a deceased member's account.
According to the report, police allege Tincher withdrew $21,279.51 from that account through cashier's checks made payable to herself, Cash App transfers and cash withdrawals. When investigators questioned Tincher at the credit union July 3, she reportedly responded, “It’s pretty clear what was done.”
Although Tincher denied taking money from other accounts, the credit union subsequently discovered similar transactions involving six additional accounts, AZ Family reported. Investigators allege she stole a total of $28,326.28 and transferred money from a living member's account into a deceased member's account to conceal missing funds after beneficiaries discovered the discrepancy.
According to AZ Family, Tincher faces multiple charges, including first-degree theft, ongoing criminal conduct and first-degree fraudulent practice, along with additional theft and fraud counts. She was released on bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 16.
