Credit Unions Press FCC to Crack Down On Caller ID Spoofing

WASHINGTON--Working to strengthen credit unions’ and other financial institutions’ ability to combat fraud, America’s Credit Unions and the Defense Credit Union Council joined a coalition in a letter to the Federal Communications Commission supporting changes to the “STIR/SHAKEN” caller ID authentication framework.
The FCC has proposed updates to the framework, which is designed to combat caller ID spoofing and fraudulent robocalls.
“By adopting these proposed revisions, the Commission can reduce consumer harm, improve accountability across the voice ecosystem, strengthen the value of caller ID authentication, and better protect consumers and legitimate businesses from impersonation scams and other types of fraud,” the letter reads.
