Inside Job: Brothers Plead Guilty In Staged Credit Union Robbery

BOSTON— Two Massachusetts brothers have pleaded guilty to staging the 2024 robbery of Energy Credit Union, where one of them worked as a teller, stealing nearly $200,000 before investigators recovered most of the cash and uncovered the scheme through cellphone records and surveillance video.
Jenel Flounoury, 30, and Justin Flounoury, 34, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Boston to conspiracy to commit larceny from a credit union. Prosecutors said the brothers orchestrated a fake robbery on Sept. 24, 2024, with Justin entering the credit union disguised in dark clothing, sunglasses and a mask and handing Jenel, who was working as a teller, a note demanding money. Instead of handing over the limited cash in his teller drawer, Jenel entered the vault, filled a bag with $197,146 and gave it to his brother.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, cellphone records showed Justin returned to the home he shared with Jenel after the robbery. Within hours, surveillance cameras captured the brothers burning dark clothing in a backyard grill. Investigators later recovered charred clothing from the grill, and a search of the residence uncovered more than $160,000 in cash, including $100 bills with serial numbers matching those taken from the credit union vault.
Both men face up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release and fines of up to $250,000 when they are sentenced Oct. 19. The case was investigated by the FBI, Massachusetts State Police and Boston Police.
